OSCE criticises Kazakhstan over Krishna incident

The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe criticised Kazakhstan on Monday for destroying part of a village housing Hare Krishna followers, calling the incident a form of religious intolerance.

Kazakh Hindu met with local Government

The Krishna spokesperson gave Tusupov the OSCE Statement and briefly described the situation. Then he addressed the deputy Hakim on our requests to stop further demolition and violence, to withdraw the Hakimat claims from court and compensate the owners of the destroyed homes. The deputy Hakim Tusupov began screaming that we have no rights to request anything. He repeatedly screamed, "who are you, you people are nobody!" Then he screamed, "Have you informed these people about the new court cases? Do they Know?" "Then we will see you in the court."

OSCE Statement on Destruction of Krishna Community

The Advisory Council has, therefore, been deeply concerned by the news that properties in the Karasai District in the possession of the Hare Krishna community have been destroyed and calls upon the Kazakh authorities to halt any further demolitions and to extend immediate humanitarian assistance to those whose homes have been destroyed pending the further exploration and resolution of the dispute concerning title to the properties in question.

Kazakhstan Hindus Fear Further Attacks

After government officials destroyed thirteen homes of Hindu families and sent men, women and children homeless into sub-freezing temperatures in this Central Asian republic last week, members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, ISKCON, a Vaishnava Hindu movement, are fearing further attacks against their temple, and the remaining homes of believers.

The governmental officials destroy Hindu houses in the Karasai region

The court officers along with workers began to enter by force into the homes of the believers and to throw their possessions out to the street.  Crow-bars and hammers were used to open doors and windows of the houses, owners of which were absent, and their things were also thrown out.
