The governmental officials destroy Hindu houses in the Karasai region

On November 21, 2006, about noon, some officers of the court from Karasai police station arrived at the territory of the Hindu community, along with heavy machinery, 3 big busses with police and 2 ambulances. The neighbourhood was closed, roads blocked, access restricted.

Only women and children were present at the farm. All men were at work in the city.

The inquiries about the initiators of the destruction process were not effective. Nobody was taking any responsibility, saying that a decision of the court was being carried out.

The leader of the Hindu community had been rapidly invited from the city and was on his way to the farm. But the court executors declined waiting for him or communicating with anyone.

That day it was snowing for the first time and the temperature was below zero. Frost was expected at night. Some house owners were absent. No one was ready for the destruction of the houses.

At 1pm the court officers along with workers began to enter by force into the homes of the believers and to throw their possessions out to the street.  Crow-bars and hammers were used to open doors and windows of the houses, owners of which were absent, and their things were also thrown out.

Then heavy machinery was used. The number of policemen, workers and machinery was enough for the devastation to be carried out in different places at a time.

The attacked believers tried to fight for their property but were thrown over by police, who were beating them, knocking off their feet and pulling aside.

But more than fighting back the officials were afraid of publicity. Cameras were taken away from anyone who tried to film. Media were not allowed to enter the site. Even OSCE observers possessing diplomatic status were not permitted.

By 6pm, at dusk, everything was over. 12 houses destroyed, their owners with their possessions were left outside at subzero temperature. The cordons were off only in an hour.

The houses were destroyed despite that the governmental commission hadn't finished it's work and hadn't announced the results. As confirmed by the representative of the court, who didn't name himself, the decision to annihilate the cottages was carried out by them without the final decision of the commission.
