A State Commission is established to resolve the issue

On September 7, 2006, a Commission was established in Astana at the order of the chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee at the RK Ministry of Justice to investigate the issue around the land of the religious organization Society for Krishna Consciousness in Karasai district, Almaty province.
On the Commission are representatives of different government departments: Religious Affairs Committee, Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Prosecutor's Office, Almaty Provincial Hakimat and Karasai District Hakimat, clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Spiritual Board of Kazakhstan Muslims, as well as the coordinator of the Society for Krishna Consciousness in Central Asia B.B. Govinda Swami. The representatives of the Society for Krishna Consciousness insisted that the meetings of the Commission were attended by advocates from human rights organizations - Helsinki Human Rights Committee in Almaty and International Bureau of Human Rights and Law Observance, a representative of OSCE, and a lawyer of the Society for Krishna Consciousness (who was allowed to the Commission only after hard struggle). Amanbek Mukhashov, the deputy chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee, was appointed a head of the Commission.

The first meeting resulted in a document according to which the Commission will apply to General Prosecutor's Office with a petition to suspend the execution of the court orders in regard to the plots of land and cottages owned by the members of the Society until the Commission completes the investigation. The Commission also decided that its members should survey the documents presented by the conflicting parties until September 21, and personally visit the community in Karasai district to thoroughly investigate the situation on the spot until September 25.
